Authentic Psychology provides online Clinical Psychology assessment and therapy

Clinical psychology assessment and therapy aims to understand the problem you are experiencing, and to move forward in a constructive way.

We do this together by first listening and reflecting carefully about your individual experiences, context, and goals.

Then, based on my clinical training and experience, I suggest processes or frameworks to think about how we might move toward your goals.

I typically introduce you to relevant aspects of clinical psychology approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), or interpersonal/psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Psychological Therapy

I offer online assessment and therapy for adults seeking help with a range difficulties, such as stress, mental health, relationships, and adjusting to significant life events.

You may already know what you need help with, or perhaps you feel stuck and overwhelmed with your situation, want to move on from past hurts, or just make a positive change.

Psychological therapy is an individualised process which aims to understand your personal situation, develop bespoke goals for treatment, and uses tried and tested approaches to move forward.

As a highly experienced and trained Clinical Psychologist, my expertise covers a range of difficulties and treatment approaches. I have worked in the NHS as a Psychologist for 6 years, and prior to this worked in mental health research.

I have specific expertise in treating trauma and PTSD, anxiety and depression, and adjustment to significant life events, though I welcome enquiries from adults seeking help for any psychological difficulties.

Why Online Psychological Therapy?

Online therapy can be an effective and convenient alternative to the traditional office or hospital based treatment. Talking therapy via video-call offers clients the flexibility to engage from a location of their choice. This can be more comfortable and does not require travel to and from appointments.

Is online therapy really ‘authentic’?

What kind of Psychological Therapy?

As a Clinical Psychologist, my approach integrates multiple scientifically validated therapies to suit each person’s psychological needs. We will assess your individual difficulties and goals for therapy. Next, I will collaboratively work with you to select relevant elements of evidence-based approaches. I have expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), behaviour science, and rehabilitation psychology. Additionally, I have training in Trauma-focused CBT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychotherapy, and Psychodynamic approaches.

Will I get a diagnosis?

You do not need to have a diagnosis to benefit from psychological therapy. Many types of difficulties can be described using diagnostic labels, though the primary focus of therapy is on developing a detailed understanding of your individual problems, and using this understanding to guide bespoke treatment. Whether you receive a diagnosis depends on several factors. I would discuss with you in the first instance whether or not you are seeking a diagnosis, and collaboratively work with you to understand the potential outcomes. If you are funding therapy through insurance, they may require a diagnostic label to be associated with your treatment.

Types of difficulties I provide psychological therapy for:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
  • Anger management
  • Depression / low mood
  • OCD
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Brain injury
  • Chronic Pain
  • Chronic illness
  • ADHD
  • Autism / ASD
  • Developmental disorders
  • Intellectual Disability
  • Men’s issues
  • Parenting
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement
  • Life transitions /coaching
  • Stress / burnout
  • Sleep difficulties

How many sessions will I require?

While each individual is different, we typically begin with 3 to 5 sessions focusing on assessment, developing goals, and identifying relevant changes and strategies. For therapy targeting a specific problem, I often suggest starting with 8-12 sessions. Some difficulties may be more pervasive or long-standing and can require longer-term therapy, 20-30 sessions minimum.

I remind clients as we regularly review our plan, that this is a collaborative process; our aim is to agree together when to end therapy based on their individual needs and circumstances.

What is the cost per session?

The cost of each 50 minute session is £135 and is payable on booking for each session if you are self-funding. I am also registered with major health insurance companies and can invoice directly once I have your details and confirmation of coverage.
